Event Notes: Muirfield To Stage Ladies' Event After HCEG Gives Approval

Muirfield is "gearing up" to stage its first ladies’ tournament for nearly 20 years in the wake of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, which owns and runs the East Lothian course, "opening its doors to women members." The East Lothian Ladies’ County Golf Association will hold its showpiece event at the Open Championship venue in "a few weeks’ time" after a request was approved by the HCEG committee (SCOTSMAN, 3/22).

England will not face New Zealand this year after a game between the All Blacks and the Barbarians at Twickenham on Nov. 4 was confirmed. The Rugby Football Union was understood to be "interested in a fixture between the world's top two sides" before the end of the year. However, England and New Zealand will not meet until autumn '18 (BBC, 3/22).

The Int'l Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation announced the IWAS World Games 2017 will be hosted at the Vila Real de Santo António in Portugal from Nov. 30-Dec. 6. The preliminary sports program includes archery, athletics, beach para-volley, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo (IWAS).
