Franchise Notes: Super League Would Consider Prospect Of Club Relocation

Super League GM Mark Foster said that the league "would consider the prospect of clubs moving to new cities in the interest of the sport." There is "no precedent in rugby league although there have been mergers," such as Hull taking over Gateshead in '00. Foster: "I don't think we could say no to that." The discussion has been "made more pertinent by the situation with Wakefield," which is "to leave Belle Vue at the end of the season" and has "struggled to come to agreement on a new, purpose-built venue" in its home borough (BBC, 3/14).

Reports suggest "there is a new contract for the sale" of Serie A side AC Milan, which "should be completed" before April 16. The takeover by Sino-Europe Sports has "been hit by a series of delays." Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported that a new contract was "all-but agreed" Monday, and a new deposit of €100M ($106M) "should arrive in the next two days" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 3/14).

League Two side Notts County Owner Alan Hardy accused former Manager John Sheridan and the League Managers Association of "trying to run a coach and horses through the concept of respect in football" after appealing his dismissal for "gross misconduct." Hardy, a local businessman who took over the club in January, sacked Sheridan and replaced him with Kevin Nolan. He later clarified that Sheridan was sacked for gross misconduct, "rather than the side's poor form" (PA, 3/14).
