Badminton Player P.V. Sindhu's Stock Rising In Indian Sponsorship Market

While male cricketers such as M.S. Dhoni and Virat Kohli have been "dominating the Indian sponsorship market," badminton player P.V. Sindhu is "rewriting the script for the fairer sex with her victories on and off the court in the past six months," according to ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS. The 21-year-old Rio Olympic Silver Medalist "currently stands second on the list of most valuable Indian sports earners for each day of endorsements," behind only Kohli. Her rise to the top five in the world badminton rankings has "simultaneously raised her endorsement value, sprinting past Dhoni and female counterparts such as Saina Nehwal and Sania Mirza." Baseline Ventures Managing Dir Tuhin Mishra said, "Sindhu is clearly the No. 1 woman athlete in the country and among the top two-three sportsperson for India." Mishra said that Sindhu's current endorsement fee ranges from $150,000 to $185,000 a day. Kohli is understood to charge $300,000 from brands for a day. Sindhu has already signed deals worth about $4.5M in the past five months as part of the three-year Baseline deal guaranteeing a minimum of $7.5M. Sindhu’s latest endorsement deal "is with Reckitt Benckiser for its Moov pain reliever" (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 3/8).
