Football Notes: Adelaide United Chair Dismisses Rumors Regarding Brisbane's Aloisi

A-League side Adelaide United Chair Greg Griffin dismissed as "completely untrue" a report claiming the Reds are targeting Brisbane coach John Aloisi "with an offer in the region of half a million dollars." Aloisi and his brother, assistant coach Ross, have been "linked to a move south" (AAP, 3/5).

The Chinese Super League may be "awash with riches" but the new season started in "embarrassing fashion." Guizhou Zhicheng's 52,888-seat stadium "lacked one crucial element" to the opener -- supporters. Despite the "hype and fanfare surrounding the lucrative league," a stadium ban was enforced for the hosts (London DAILY MAIL, 3/3).

The Scottish Professional Football League is "mulling over plans to overhaul" the Premiership playoffs. Since its introduction in '14, the system "has been slated for being weighted in favour of the team finishing 11th in the top flight." Now, both divisions are "considering a proposal to level the playing field from next season." Currently, the teams "finishing third or fourth in the Championship face a punishing six-game shift." Under the new plans, the teams finishing third and fourth "would play a one-off game." The winner "would then play a single game against the team in second" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 3/5).
