The Swedish women’s football team "replaced the names on the back of their kits with empowering messages as part of a campaign intended to inspire women," according to Tony Connelly of THE DRUM. In partnership with adidas, the Swedish FA’s kit sponsor, "the players have chosen tweets from prominent Swedish women" to be printed on the back of their shirts where their names would usually appear. The initiative was launched by the Swedish FA. The jerseys will go on sale on Int'l Women's Day on March 8 (THE DRUM, 3/2). In London, Marcus Christenson reported Swedish captain Lotta Schelin, who picked a message from Swedish politician Gudrun Schyman that says, "Never look down on someone unless it is to help her up," said, "The national team shirt is an important symbol and it constantly reminds us that we can win whatever game it is in whatever competitions." Swedish Communications Dir Niklas Bodell said, "The initiative is first and foremost to, with the help of the national team, highlight the power that comes with doing things together and the women’s team’s success is a good example of that" (GUARDIAN, 3/2).
