FIFA Reveals Confederations Cup Ticket Prices, Introduces 'Obese Tickets'

FIFA announced its ticket prices for the 2017 Confederations Cup -- with "special tickets for larger supporters" who are classified as "obese," according to Luke Brown of the London INDEPENDENT. This summer's Confederations Cup will be hosted in Russia. Ticket prices, which have increased by up to 25% since '13, were announced on Wednesday and FIFA’s decision to market special tickets for "obese" supporters for each match in the tournament has "raised eyebrows." On the organization's official website, FIFA defined "Obese persons" as "people with a BMI that is equal to or exceeds 35 kg/m2" (INDEPENDENT, 3/1). In London, Anthony Hay reported "obese tickets" are the same price as the standard seats but "will allow fans to be more comfortable" during the tournament. Category One group matches have been priced at $135 for both standard and obese seats, while the final could cost fans up to $245. FIFA said, "Tickets in all categories ... will be made available by FIFA for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis, which means that, unlike in the previous sales window, they will be allocated as a real-time transaction to the ticket applicants" (DAILY MAIL, 3/1).
