Dundee United Chair To Oversee Cost-Cutting Program Following £1.55M Annual Loss

Scottish Championship side Dundee United Chair Stephen Thompson admitted he is overseeing a "cost-cutting" program after the Tannadice club reported an annual loss of £1.55M, according to Darren Johnstone of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The club posted an operating loss of £2.53M for the year to June '16. A fall in league prize money and a drop in match attendance income is blamed for a 21% reduction in revenue to £4.61M after the team "spent the majority of last season at the Premiership basement before having their relegation confirmed to the second tier." Former Manager Jackie McNamara's sacking in Sept. '15 and investment in the squad following Mixu Paatelinen's appointment "led to administrative expenses rising" 38% to £1.81M. Despite supporting current Manager Ray McKinnon in "targeting promotion straight back to the top flight," United plans to make £1.5M "of cost-saving during the current financial year" (DAILY RECORD, 3/1).
