After "much uncertainty, rumors and threats that the team had folded," Mexican baseball club Tigres de Quintana Roo "has been sold, will continue playing in Cancún and will keep its name and history," according to LA AFICIÓN. The team, which was founded in '55, "has new owners, a group led by former MLB player Fernando Valenzuela, who acquired the team from Carlos Peralta, who had owned the club since '97." Tigres announced earlier in February that it was leaving the Mexican Baseball League (LMB). Peralta: "Being sensitive to the displays of the fan base's fear that the legacy of Tigres would disappear and considering the interest of a regional group of investors with proven moral quality, love for baseball and a development plan for the team in Cancún, I have taken the decision to sell the team and the name of Tigres." Neither "the number of partners who bought the team, the cost of the sale nor whether the state government will participate were explained." Valenzuela: "We are going to try to keep raising the name of Tigres, of this organization that the Peralta family has owned all this time. I am happy that baseball will move forward. I never imagined being in front of an organization, much less a team like Tigres" (LA AFICIÓN, 2/19).
