Callot was beaten by DAVID LAPPARTIENT in ’09 for the position, “and looks to take over as president in March” (L’ÉQUIPE, 2/13). ... Australian cricketer ADAM VOGES announced his retirement from int'l cricket. The 37-year-old "bows out with the second highest Test average of all time" behind Australian DONALD BRADMAN. He will continue to play for Middlesex County Cricket Club, "having last month signed for a fourth stint as an overseas player there" (BBC, 2/14). ... MANNY PACQUIAO's Twitter followers "voted for AMIR KHAN to be the WBO world welterweight champion's next title challenger." Khan beat fellow Briton KELL BROOK, Australia's JEFF HORN and American TERENCE CRAWFORD, "with 48% of the vote" (BBC, 2/13). ... Five-time Olympic medal-winning swimmer and former world record holder TSUYOSHI YAMANAKA died, aged 78, of pneumonia Friday at a Tokyo hospital. Yamanaka won two Silver Medals in the men's 400m and 1,500m freestyle at the 1956 Melbourne Games as a high school senior (KYODO, 2/14). ... Bayern Munich's XABI ALONSO reportedly "used Kardzali, an organization in Madeira, Portugal, to avoid paying taxes" on bonuses. Spanish authorities previously investigated Alonso, formerly of Real Madrid, for using Kardzali, "but a court dropped the case despite the public ministry's desire to continue investigating" (SPORT, 2/14).
