Franchise Notes: Rangers Chair Planning Changes To Football Structure

Scottish Premiership side Rangers Chair Dave King revealed the club "could now favour appointing a manager until the end of the season following Mark Warburton's sudden departure." It is understood the Ibrox club is "planning to install a director of football in a structure preferred by directors prior to Warburton’s arrival" in June '15. One of what King described as “corrective measures” to remedy recent problems involves appointing a director of football, which the chair believes is one of the hallmarks of a “robust and modern football structure.” While Alex McLeish and Billy Davies "top the list of candidates for the post of interim manager," there was no confirmation Monday whether both or either of them have "already had discussions" with Ibrox officials (SCOTSMAN, 2/14).

Arsenal has been "accused of deliberately trying to mislead fans by withholding attendance figures at the Emirates Stadium while releasing the bloated number of tickets sold." The club was "officially watched by 59,692 fans" as it beat Hull City, 663 short of the stadium's maximum capacity. But "many times more than 663 seats appeared vacant." The Arsenal Supporters' Trust is claiming "as many as 10,000 may have been absent despite holding tickets." A spokesperson for the organization said that Arsenal's "insistence on releasing the figure for tickets sold rather than actual attendance is a conscious effort to mislead their own fan base" (London DAILY MAIL, 2/13).

Scottish Championship side Hibernian revealed it wrote to Edinburgh rival Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian and "demanded refunds" for its fans who were denied entry to Tynecastle Stadium ahead of Sunday's Scottish Cup match. A contingent of Hibs supporters "were locked out of the stadium during Sunday’s 0-0 draw after wrongly being told by a steward they would be unable to enter the ground." It is the third incident that has occurred at Tynecastle Stadium in the past nine months with Celtic and Rangers supporters "both suffering the same fate and barred from entering the ground to cheer on their respective teams" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 2/13).
