League Two Side Leyton Orient Fans Could Step In As Owner Pursues Sale

League Two side Leyton Orient supporters "are preparing for all eventualities as Francesco Becchetti tries to sell the club after two-and-a-half years of turmoil under his ownership," according to Giuseppe Muro of the London EVENING STANDARD. Starting a "phoenix club" in the mold of AFC Wimbledon "has been discussed as one option" by the Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust -- even though that is "considered as very much the last resort at this stage." But with "so much uncertainty surrounding the club" and its place in the Football League "under threat" after 112 years, the Trust is drawing up an action plan to deal with what it describes as "crisis scenarios." Becchetti said in a statement that he would "continue to fund the club" after putting it up for sale last month, but fans fear the Italian businessman is "running Orient into the ground." Fans are setting up a "fighting fund" to raise money should the club go into administration or if the Italian businessman "leaves the club lumbered with debt." The group is also "seeking out people to invest in the club" (EVENING STANDARD, 2/14).
