FFA Officials Holding Talks On Major Constitutional Reform

Football Federation Australia officials will "begin a series of meetings" with Australian football's key stakeholders over the course of a week "as they seek to flesh out ways reform to the game's governing structure can be effected in line with a FIFA directive to make the Australian game more representative," according to Michael Lynch of THE AGE. FFA Chair Steven Lowy, CEO David Gallop and senior managers will meet with club representatives, officials of the state-based member federations, the players' union and other interested parties to "see if a strategy to tap into a wider base of knowledge and expertise can be implemented." An increasing number of supporters and media, not to mention club execs, are "agitating for, at the very least, speedy expansion of the A-League, at most for the rapid establishment of a second division and with it promotion and relegation." A-League clubs have been "vociferous in their criticism of the way the game's revenues are being shared out and are agitating for a greater share of the TV money, arguing that it should go to the clubs who put on the main show, not the Socceroos or other FFA projects" (THE AGE, 2/12).
