BBC Pulls Six Nations Advertisement Branded 'Borderline Racism'

A BBC Wales trailer was "taken down after sparking fierce online debate ahead of this weekend's Six Nations clash between Wales and England," according to Mick Gadd of the London DAILY MIRROR. One Wales fan branded the ad "borderline racism." Yet others called it "'quality' inter-nation banter." The video asked, "What is good about England?" with the Welsh respondents "unable to muster more than blank expressions" in answer to the question. The promo was shared by BBC Wales' social media team on Wednesday night but was pulled by Thursday morning following a "strong reaction." When asked about the video, the BBC said that "it was meant in good humour and certainly" was not "intended to offend" rugby fans from Wales or England. It was also confirmed the video was taken down as a result of the "response it received on social media" (DAILY MIRROR, 2/9).
