AFL Women's Changes Another Match Venue To Bigger Ground

The "huge initial popularity" of the Australian Football League Women's has led to a "second venue change in as many weeks," with Saturday's encounter between Collingwood and Melbourne to be moved to Princes Park, according to Mike Hytner of the London GUARDIAN. The match was originally scheduled to take place at Olympic Park, Collingwood's 5,000-capacity home ground, but the match has been switched after last week's "bumper crowds during the opening round." Princes Park, "which holds nearly 24,500, will host the all-Melbourne clash on Saturday evening" as part of a doubleheader that starts in the afternoon when Carlton hosts Greater Western Sydney. Up to 2,000 fans were "locked out of last Friday's AFLW opener between Carlton and Collingwood, even after the venue had been changed from Olympic Park to Princes Park." AFL Development Manager Simon Lethlean said, "Following the great attendances of the opening round last weekend, we want to make sure those who wish to attend the AFL Women's matches this weekend can do so" (GUARDIAN, 2/7).
