Argentine FA Execs Set Dates For Meetings, Hope To Start Season March 3

Following a three-hour meeting, Argentine FA execs from the first division and lower tiers "announced an agreement to normalize the AFA and allow the upcoming seasons to start in early March," according to Alejandro Casar González of LA NACION. An assembly scheduled for Feb. 27 will be held to reform the statutes, rescind the Fútbol Para Todos TV contract, finalize a deal with the AFA's new TV rights holder and create a Superliga. Elections will be held on March 16, with 22 representatives from the first division and 21 from the other divisions. It is expected that the upcoming first division season will begin March 3 (LA NACION, 2/6).

CAUGHT ON TAPE: MARCA reported Boca Juniors President Daniel Angelici "asked a referee to favor his team in a crucial game in '15 in which the club qualified to play in the Copa Libertadores," according to a phone conversation released by Argentine channel TyC Sports. Angelici said in the conversation with then-AFA President Luis Segura, "Schedule to speak directly with [referee Germán] Delfino on Wednesday. So that he makes as few mistakes as possible." Segura "told Angelici in that conversation to be 'calm,' because he would fulfill the request." Boca defeated Vélez 1-0 on Jan. 28, 2015 to qualify for that year's Copa Libertadores (MARCA, 2/7).
