Franchise Notes: Journalists' Families To Sue Brasileiro Side Chapecoense Over Crash

Families of some of the journalists who died in the Brasileiro side Chapecoense's "air disaster" are to sue the club for "being reckless over the flight arrangements." Lawyer João Tancredo, who represents families of seven of the 21 journalists who died as the plane crashed on its approach to Medellín in November, said, "Chapecoense will have to be sued, there is no other option. It was the club that chartered the aircraft and made the contract with the airline. Chapecoense undertook all responsibility for the transportation. ... I want to know who was responsible for the compensation in case of an accident. An insurance policy would have been made on behalf of the passengers. It is mandatory" (KEIRRADNEDGE.com, 2/7).

Premier League side Crystal Palace canceled a trip to Dubai next week "amid fears that it would not have gone down well with supporters" after a 4-0 defeat at home to Sunderland on Saturday. Crystal Palace Manager Sam Allardyce had planned to "take his relegation-threatened squad to a warm-weather training camp, but it was decided that the players would be better served" remaining in the U.K. and working on defensive drills (LONDON TIMES, 2/7).

EPL side Leicester City has given its "unwavering support" to Manager Claudio Ranieri despite the reigning Premier League champion "being just one point above the relegation zone." The Italian "had been under pressure" after a run of just two wins in Leicester's last 15 Premier League games. However, the Foxes said in a statement that "the entire club is and will remain united behind its manager." Ranieri said, "This is not a crisis" (BBC, 2/7).

Scottish Premiership side Celtic supporters are looking to raise £15,000 ($18,800) for a "special tifo diplay to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions." The gofundme campaign currently sits at more than £4,000 ($5,000) as fans "look to pay a fitting tribute to the most decorated team in club history," which won the 1967 European Cup (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 2/7).

Serie A side Pescara President Daniele Sebastiani said that "at the end of the year I’ll leave the club" after two of his cars were set on fire. The team is bottom of Serie A with just nine points. Il Centro reported that "anger has boiled over to unacceptable levels, with an arson attack." At 03:30am on Tuesday, "unidentified people set fire to two cars" parked outside Sebastiani’s house (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 2/7).
