Canal+ acquired the broadcast rights to French basketball’s “major int’l tournaments until the men’s 2021 Eurobasket.” In addition to the women’s Euro 2017, Canal will broadcast the 2019 FIBA World Cup, the men’s 2017 European Basketball Championship, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers and the men’s team qualification matches for the World Cup and Euro from ’17-21. The channel will also broadcast the men’s and women’s continental competitions (FIBA AfroBasket and FIBA Americas) as well as the int’l youth competitions (U17, U19) (L’ÉQUIPE, 2/3).
More than 5 million viewers watched France lose to England 19-16 in its opening Six Nations tournament match. France 2 registered a peak audience of 6.2 million for the match. The channel will broadcast France’s next match against Scotland on Feb. 12 (L’ÉQUIPE, 2/5).
The French National Basketball League (LNB) announced that one Pro A match will be shown each Sunday on Numéro 23. The free-TV channel will air each game live at 6:30pm local time (LNR).
