Spanish Basketball League Clubs Call For Meeting To Address Title Sponsorship

The Spanish Basketball League's (ACB) conflict with current title sponsor Endesa has led "more than six clubs in the 17-team ACB" to call for President Francisco Roca to hold an extraordinary assembly from Feb. 16-19 to "seek explanations and alternatives to resolve a conflict that could seriously erode the league's funding," according to Faustino Sáez of EL PAÍS. On Monday, Barcelona, Baskonia and Joventut -- which form a negotiating committee created to manage the title sponsorship of the league -- will meet, "without Endesa present, to look to extend bridges to re-establish cooperation" with both Endesa and Movistar, the league's current broadcast partner. Roca reportedly "informed clubs in November of his intention to have Movistar replace Endesa as the league's title sponsor after the current agreement expires in June" (EL PAÍS, 2/1).
