German Public Broadcaster ARD To Show 2017, 2018 Tour De France

German public broadcaster ARD "will cover the Tour de France live this year and next year," according to Jörn Krieger of BROADBAND TV NEWS. SportA, the sports rights agency of public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, "renewed its contract with Amaury Sport Organisation" for '17 and '18. Financial details were not disclosed. The coverage of this year’s race will start on July 1. Until the final on July 23, ARD’s main channel Das Erste "will report from the event from Monday to Friday" between 4:05pm and 5:25pm CET and "more extensively on the weekends." The Tour de France will also be streamed live each day on ARD’s sports website at www.sportschau.de. Following "several doping scandals, ARD and ZDF withdrew their live coverage of the Tour de France" in '12. Since '15, ARD has been "covering the race again live, but keeps the option to pull out when new doping cases emerge" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 1/31).
