France-Norway Handball World Cup Final Win Draws 12.3 Million On TF1

Sunday’s Handball World Cup final between France and Norway was broadcast live in France on TF1, and drew an average audience of 8.67 million viewers, according to L’ÉQUIPE. The match drew a peak audience of 12.3 million for the channel and the numbers translated to a 43.6% market share. The final, which France won 33-26, did not break the record for French handball, which was set at the 2015 World Cup final between France and Qatar. That match drew 9.1 million viewers. France vs. Norway was also broadcast on pay-TV channel beIN Sports, which drew an average of 925,000 viewers and a peak audience of 1.15 million (L’ÉQUIPE, 1/30).

MORE FROM FRANCE: In a separate piece, L’ÉQUIPE reported the Ligue 1 match between reigning league champion Paris St. Germain and table leader Monaco, broadcast on Canal+, drew an average audience of 1.44 million viewers. The 1-1 draw was watched by a peak audience of 1.6 million. The numbers translated to a 6.7% market share for Canal+. The audience was the second highest for the season, behind PSG vs. Olympique de Marseille, which drew an average audience of 1.75 million viewers (L’ÉQUIPE, 1/30).
