Premier League Clubs Spent £80M On Wages To Injured Players In First Half Of Season

Premier League clubs paid almost £80M ($100M) in "wages to injured stars during the first half of this season" -- with Man City taking a £9.2M ($11.5M) "hit on out-of-action players," according to Adam Shergold of the London DAILY MAIL. Pep Guardiola's team "suffered 17 injuries between July and December," with the average cost of each one coming in at £541,000 ($675,168). Arsenal paid £8.2M ($10.2M) in wages to sidelined players, West Ham United £6.6M ($8.2M) and ManU £6.5M ($8.1M), research by insurance broker JLT Speciality found. In all, the 20 Premier League clubs "suffered 366 injuries during the first part of the season, with knee problems the most common and back injuries leading to the most time out of action" (DAILY MAIL, 1/30).
