Bundesliga CEO Christian Seifert Calls NFL 'Dramatically Over-Commercialized'

German Football League (DFL) CEO Christian Seifert called the NFL a "dramatically over-commercialized" league, according to Holger Rehm of SPONSORs. During the presentation of the "Bundesliga Report" in which the league reported a record revenue of more than €3B ($3.2B) for the past season, Seifert also talked about the NFL. He said, "The sport is dramatically over-commercialized. We are talking about $9B per year for broadcast rights." Seifert said that the result of such deals would be either "incredibly high subscription fees or -- and that's happening in the NFL -- TV commercials whenever possible, which damages the viewing experience." The league CEO said that it is important for the Bundesliga "not to follow the U.S. model and overdo things in the future" (SPONSORs, 1/27).
