Media Notes: French Tennis Federation Renews Roland Garros Deal With SuperSport

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) and SuperSport, which broadcasts the Roland Garros throughout sub-Saharan Africa, announced that their existing agreement, which ran up to the '17 tournament, has been extended to cover the '18-21 period. The new agreement, which includes both TV and digital rights to the Grand Slam tournament, means that SuperSport will continue to cover the tournament in 54 countries (SuperSport).

Sky’s Friday night Premier League experiment "appears to have failed, with only four games shown so far this season and none scheduled for February or March." Sky broadcast three Friday games in the early part of the season "but then came a three-month gap before the last one between Hull and Everton" on Dec. 30. Insiders at Sky said that they still want it to "form part of their coverage," with 10 games permitted per season, but "juggling the hectic Premier League schedule with other competitions is proving a big challenge" (London DAILY MAIL, 1/24).

L’Équipe’s TV channel will broadcast all major int’l judo competitions starting this season through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The World Championships, Masters, Grands Prix and Grand Slams will be shown live. Coverage starts on Feb. 11 with the Paris Grand Slam (L’Équipe).

On Monday, Mexico's Professional American Football League (LFA) announced that broadcaster Multimedios "will be the first channel to carry games during the '17 season." The league, which includes six teams, will begin its season on Feb. 18 (LA AFICIÓN, 1/23).
