German Viewers Left In Dark After Networks Fail To Secure Africa Cup Of Nations Rights

German TV viewers "will be left in the dark when the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Saturday," according to Holger Rehm of SPONSORs. Not a single German network "secured broadcast rights to the continential football competition." The most recent edition of the tournament in '15 "aired on pan-European sports network Eurosport in Germany." The channel, however, "has no interest in showing the event this time around." Other sports networks such as Sport1 and Sky are also "not interested in covering the biannual event." Sports news channel Sky Sport News HD said that it will "show highlights from the three-week competition" (SPONSORs, 1/6).
