RFL Wants Three Years' Financial Support From New Bradford Owners

The Rugby Football League said that the owners of a new Bradford rugby league club "will need to financially support the side for three years," according to Dave Woods of the BBC. The Bradford Bulls "were liquidated on Tuesday." The governing body received 10 "expressions of interest" and has set a deadline of Monday. The RFL said that bidders are "more likely to succeed if they promise to honour season tickets and rugby league debts." The RFL Board, which is independent, will "make a final decision within a couple of weeks." If an agreement is reached, the new side would play its "first competitive game against Hull KR" on Feb. 5 (BBC, 1/6).

READY TO STEP IN: SKY SPORTS reported newly-formed rugby side Toronto Wolfpack head coach Paul Rowley said that the club "would be ready to step in" and take Bradford's place in the Championship "if given the chance." The Canadian newcomers are "gearing up for the start of the season in March," using training facilities in West Yorkshire, but Rowley said that the team "would be keen to start in the Championship if the opportunity arose." He said, "We fully supported starting at the bottom, I think that's right. But, if you are asking me if we would take the opportunity, absolutely yes, we would go now" (SKY SPORTS, 1/6).
