Franchise Notes: Luol Deng Reveals His Dream Of Buying EPL side Crystal Palace

British NBA player Luol Deng has revealed his "dream of buying" EPL side Crystal Palace. The NBA L.A. Laker, who was born in South Sudan but moved to south London as a child, is a two-time NBA all-star and "one of Britain's most famous sporting exports to the United States." Despite being an Arsenal fan, Deng has revealed that his "long-time dream has been to take over the club nearest to where he grew up," in Brixton. Deng said, "I'm hoping they can stay up -- I've always said that if I become a billionaire I'm buying Crystal Palace -- it's a dream of mine" (London INDEPENDENT, 1/5).

EPL side Everton will see all season ticket prices reduced or frozen for the '17-18 season and a new 12-month payment option introduced. The club's determination to deliver cost-effective options for season ticket holders has not stopped with the freezing or reduction of prices, with a number of further initiatives introduced for the '17-18 season, including:

  • A new reduced price category for fans aged 22-24.
  • Early bird pricing becoming the standard price for all season tickets.
  • A maximum season ticket price of £565 ($701), ensuring no adult season ticket costs more than £30 ($37.23) per game (Everton FC)
English Premiership rugby side Gloucester CEO Stephen Vaughan said that the club "should find out whether Mohed Altrad's prospective takeover will be approved by the end of January." As Altrad already owns Top14 side Montpellier, "any deal needs Rugby Football Union, French Rugby Federation, European Professional Club Rugby and World Rugby approval." Vaughan added, "The informal signs are positive but we are waiting for formal approval" (BBC, 1/4).

Force India announced on Thursday it will launch its '17 Formula 1 car at the Silverstone circuit on Feb. 22. The team, the third to reveal its launch date, "will thus unveil its new contender a day ahead of champion Mercedes and two before Ferrari" (MOTORSPORT, 1/5).
