Media Notes: Eurosport Secures Rights For Spain's Futsal League Through '19

Eurosport has "gained exclusive TV rights for Spain’s indoor football league" through '19. Under the terms of the agreement, Eurosport 2 will broadcast the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala "over the next three seasons, kicking off in February." The channel will "appoint a completely new team of journalists and analysts for the coverage." Eurosport 2 "will air one exclusive game per week during the regular season," along with the Super Cup, the Copa de España quarterfinals, semifinals and finals and the complete playoffs for the LNFS title (RAPID TV NEWS, 1/4).

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has "re-branded its international operations into China Global Television Network, or CGTN." CGTN is a multi-language and multi-platform media grouping "consisting of six TV channels, a video content provider and a digital media division." CCTV News is "rebranded CGTN, the prime news channel of the new organisation" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 1/2).

Discovery Communications has "reached an agreement with RCS&RDS that both extends the distribution of Eurosport and sees the return of Discovery Channel to Digi TV four years after its withdrawal." According to RCS&RDS, Discovery Channel "will be offered to both its cable (analogue and digital) and satellite subscribers as a basic channel" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 12/31).

Sports channel Eurosport 1 HD and men’s channel DMAX HD will be "part of the commercial channel proposition Freenet TV" launching on March 29 on the German DVB-T2 platform. The agreement "was reached between TV broadcaster Discovery Networks Deutschland and platform operator Media Broadcast." Through the carriage of Eurosport 1 HD, terrestrial TV households "will be able to watch the Olympic Games the channel will broadcast along with DMAX HD live and exclusively in Germany" from '18 (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 1/4).
