Rotherham CEO Richard Lamb Hopes To Head Rescue Bid For Bradford Bulls

Rugby Football Union Championship side Rotherham Titans CEO Richard Lamb is "hopeful of heading up a rescue bid for the Bradford Bulls," according to Andy Charles of SKY SPORTS. The Bulls, four-time Super League champions, were placed in liquidation on Tuesday. Administrators confirmed that a bid placed for the club on Dec. 29 had been rejected. Since that announcement, the Rugby Football League has confirmed "the Bulls can be reformed and stay in the Kingstone Press Championship this season," starting with a 12-point deduction. Lamb said that he is "keen to resurrect the club." Lamb added, "I spoke to (RFL chief operating officer Ralph Rimmer) this morning and the RFL has put a process in place which starts today (Wednesday). They are looking to want to complete it next week. We've got to very quickly build a team around myself and a couple of others who have got experience in rugby league, which we are doing." Coach Rohan Smith has already said he is "up for the challenge of leading a new-look Bulls squad" and said the "bulk" of his previous players were "standing with him." Lamb: "I think you can compete in the Championship. It's going to be tough -- 12 points is effectively six games so you are going to have to look at winning over half the games and there's a lot of good teams" (SKY SPORTS, 1/4). The BBC's Dave Woods reported the RFL said "it has received 10 expressions of interest in creating a new club in Bradford." The league set a deadline of Jan. 9 for bids to be submitted. A decision is then expected "within two weeks." Jamie Peacock, who captained Bradford to its last Super League title in '05 before joining Leeds, believes "a reformed Bradford club can be successful if they can get through what is likely to be a tough spell in the short term." Peacock said, "They had the same situation in 1963, reformed in 1964 and were winning trophies again within about five years" (BBC, 1/4).
