MacGregor Optimistic About Scottish FA Future, Supports Mackay's Blueprint

Scottish Premiership side Ross County Chair Roy MacGregor insists new Scottish FA Performance Dir Malky Mackay "can call for all the change he wants in Scottish football" but it will not happen if clubs do not "subscribe to it," according to Frank Gilfeather of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. MacGregor believes Mackay has a "tough job on his hands" persuading club bosses to support whatever new moves he sees as being "for the good of the game." But he is ready to back the ex-manager of Championship sides Cardiff and Wigan and EPL side Watford to "challenge the hierarchy." MacGregor -- part of the SFA working group that "drew up plans for the future" of Scottish football, known as Project Brave -- is "optimistic the blueprint for change will benefit the game." But he "reckons it could take at least 10 years before the benefits are seen" with Mackay having to persuade all the clubs to get behind his search for progress. MacGregor, also chair of the Global Energy Group, insists the changes needed to make Scottish football better are "basic" and center on "discovering and nurturing homegrown talent" (DAILY RECORD, 1/3).
