Team Sky Confident Of No Wrongdoing In UKAD Report

Team Sky is "confident" no wrongdoing will be found when UK Anti-Doping produces "a report into a mystery package" given to Bradley Wiggins, according to the BBC. Team Sky Principal Dave Brailsford told the Culture, Media & Sport committee on Monday that "the package contained an over-the-counter decongestant, Fluimucil." UKAD launched the investigation following a London Daily Mail allegation. A Team Sky statement said, "We are continuing to co-operate fully with UKAD and we look forward to their report." Brailsford told MPs on Monday he had handled the situation "very badly." Team Sky added, "During the committee session, Dave [Brailsford] acknowledged once again his own mistakes in handling the issue over recent months" (BBC, 12/20). REUTERS' Martyn Herman reported earlier at the same hearing, former coach Shane Sutton confirmed that "the package had contained medicine although he did not know what it was." Sutton said it had been administered to Wiggins by team doctor Richard Freeman. Brailsford told MPs that an invoice "should be there" to document the shipment of Fluimucil -- a drug that loosens mucus and which is not on WADA's prohibited list. Brailsford: "There's always lessons to be learned and you start with yourself. I could have done a lot better quite frankly" (REUTERS, 12/20).
