BeIN Sports France President Responds After Company Publishes Billion-Euro Loss

After publishing accounts showing more than a billion euros in losses, beIN Sports has “decided to respond,” according to L’ÉQUIPE. Through an announcement by beIN Sports President Youssef Al-Obaidly, the channel “hoped to reassure its future.” Al-Obaidly said, “After a period of investment, beIN Sports France will achieve profitability thanks to recently announced broadcast deals.” He added, “The growth we are experiencing is both financial and in our subscription base, which passed the 3 million mark. This is even more remarkable in the context of the modest growth of the French economy and the fierce competition we encounter on the market.” The recently published accounts were for beIN’s ’14 and ’15 activity. The ’16 balance sheet “should give a clearer idea of the economic situation of beIN Sports France” (L’ÉQUIPE, 12/15).
