Team Russia "will not boycott the Bobsleigh & Skeleton 2017 World Championships." The Int'l Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation on Tuesday announced that the championships will be moved from Sochi. Russian Bobsleigh Federation President Aleksandr Zubkov said, "I can 100 percent guarantee you that we will not boycott the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championship that will not be held in our country" (RT, 12/14).
The "wrangle" between Rugby Super League side Castleford Tigers and English Premiership side Sale Sharks over the right to employ Denny Solomona "continues this week as the rugby league club seeks legal redress." Despite appeals from the Rugby Football League over the "cross-code switch" with another two years remaining on the player's contract with Castleford, the Rugby Football Union claimed that "they were unable to stop Sale registering the player." The RFU said that it does not have the jurisdiction to act despite having respect for RFL concerns regarding the "sanctity of contracts" (RUNNING RUGBY, 12/15).
Suzie Best, the wife of Lewes trainer Jim, who was suspended for six months on Monday, "applied for a trainer's licence in an attempt to take over the running of her husband's yard." Best was punished after being found guilty of "instructing conditional jockey Paul John to stop two horses from running on their merits." Suzie Best "went on a trainer's course at the Northern Racing College in Doncaster in the summer" and applied for a license on Tuesday, "the day after the guilty verdict was passed on her husband" (LONDON TIMES, 12/15).
