Media Notes: U.K.'s ITV To Carry Boxer Chris Eubank Jr.'s Next Bout

ITV has joined an "increasingly crowded marketplace for televised boxing," announcing that it would broadcast Chris Eubank Jr.’s next bout, "although its decision to show the fight on a pay-per-view basis was not well received." Eubank will challenge Renold Quinlan, of Australia, for the IBO super-middleweight title on Feb. 4 in London. It will be broadcast on ITV Box Office, a new pay-per-view channel. ITV has not revealed the price of its first show, "but the decision to make boxing fans again pay extra to watch did not go down well on social media" (LONDON TIMES, 12/14).

A "row has broken out" between AKOP, an association representing 39 cable and IPTV operators in Bosnia & Herzegovina, and United Media, the content arm of United Group, "the leading alternative" telecom in the former Yugoslav countries. It reportedly relates to Sport Klub, a channel that AKOP "argues United Media has made unaffordable to its members" while at the same time "providing it at favourable rates" to those of the United Group. AKOP said that this "amounts to a monopoly situation that runs counter to European regulations" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 12/14).

Media services company Deltatre, which was recently acquired by Bruin Sports Capital, is stepping up its plan for virtual reality and 360-degree coverage of sports events. Deltatre's VR and 360-degree offering is an end-to-end solution from production to workflow to end-user’s apps (Deltatre).
