Event Notes: Three Tournaments Will Return To European Tour Schedule In '17

Three tournaments will return to the European Tour schedule in '17. The Open de Portugal is back "after an absence of seven years and will be played at the Morgado Golf Resort in Portimao from May 11-14." The Rocco Forte Open is to be staged a week later, "marking the tour's return to Sicily" for the first time since '12. The Andalusia Valderrama Masters in October "goes back to the scene of the 1997 Ryder Cup." The full '17 European Tour schedule can be found here (REUTERS, 12/13).

The England and Indian cricket training sessions were canceled Wednesday "owing to unfit ground conditions at the MA Chidambaram stadium in cyclone-battered Chennai which hosts the fifth and final Test" on Friday. Ten people were killed by Cyclone Vardah, the "worst cyclonic storm to hit the tech hub in southern Tamil Nadu state in more than two decades." The Indian team management said that the match "would go ahead as scheduled while confirming that the practice session had been called off on Wednesday" (AFP, 12/14).
