League Notes: ECB Contacts Counties In Wake Of Football Child Abuse Scandal

The England & Wales Cricket Board "has written to all counties in the wake of the child sex abuse scandal in football, but has not been informed of any new allegations in the sport." Similarly, the Professional Cricketers' Association "has not been contacted by anyone prompted to come forward by high-profile cases in football." The ECB has contacted all 18 first-class counties, 39 county boards and other partners, "reminding them of safeguarding procedures and responsibilities." An ECB spokesperson said, "No one can be complacent and we are always looking to improve and learn from best practice, in the game and from elsewhere" (BBC, 12/13).

The Ski Association of Japan "lifted bans on seven snowboarders Tuesday after clearing them of involvement in an underage cannabis and alcohol use scandal that led to a blanket ban being imposed recently on all snowboarding athletes and coaching staff." Tomoka Takeuchi, the Silver Medalist in the women's parallel giant slalom at the 2014 Sochi Games, along with fellow slalom competitor Eri Yanetani and men's boardercross rider Shinya Momono, "were three sponsored boarders cleared of violating the team code of conduct by a third-party investigation committee set up last" Friday (KYODO, 12/13).
