The IOC and the Int'l Masters Games Association have signed a memorandum of understanding. The long-term partnership follows recommendation 6 of Olympic Agenda 2020: to "cooperate closely with other sports event organisers." Under the new agreement, the IOC and IMGA will discuss the possibility for the host cities of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games to organize the Masters Games in the years following the Olymipcs (IOC).
Hungarian Swimming Federation President Tamas Gyarfas "tendered his resignation on Wednesday after coming under fire from the country's leading competitors, including triple Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu." Earlier this month, Hosszu and her teammates "demanded a complete overhaul of the country's Swimming Association in a bitter dispute that has threatened to damage Budapest's bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics." Gyarfas said, "I hereby resign because I feel this is the best way for me to help now" (REUTERS, 11/30).
Well ahead of the Sept. ’17 vote in Lima, Peru, to determine the 2024 Olympic host city, the French government announced it is “ready to put money on the table” should Paris win. The National Center for the Development of Sport (CNDS) board of directors is “expected to adopt an agreement to release” €20M ($21.2M) in ’17. Half of the €20M “would go toward the construction of local sports complexes” (LE PARISIEN, 11/30).
