Football Notes: EFL Trust Launches $1.37M Project To Boost Disability Football

Disability football in England "has received a major boost" following the announcement of Every Player Counts, a new £1.1M ($1.37M) project from the EFL Trust that aims to "attract almost 10,000 new participants into the sport." Supporting the EFL Trust’s aim to increase sports participation for all, "the landmark project has been made possible" thanks to funding from the Wembley National Stadium Trust. The Every Player Counts program will cover a range of disabilities with the aim of getting more people involved in sport and 25 EFL clubs will be involved (FC BUSINESS, 11/23).

Although CONCACAF is "widely considered a shoo-in" to stage the 2026 World Cup -- whether in the U.S., Mexico or Canada, or a combination of all three -- the head of the Confederation of African Football said that his body "will support Morocco, which has tried and failed four times, should it launch a counter-bid." CAF President Issa Hayatou said, "If Morocco decides to put its name forward for a fifth time, we would naturally be supportive." Morocco lost bids to host the World Cup in '94, '98, '06, and '10. No other nation "has launched as many bids without ever gaining hosting rights" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 11/24).

Peru President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski
"is signing off on the extradition" of the country's former football boss for his "alleged involvement in a multibillion-dollar FIFA bribery scandal involving marketing and broadcasting rights." Manuel Burga has been in jail since December as part of the investigation. Peru's Supreme Court in June had cleared the way for his extradition to the U.S. It is "not clear" when Burga will be sent to the U.S. (AP, 11/24).
