MICHAEL WIEDERER has been elected the fourth president of the European Handball Federation. At the EHF Congress 2016 in St. Wolfgang on Thursday, 60-year-old Wiederer, who has been the EHF secretary general since '92, was confirmed by acclamation. No federation requested a secret ballot (EHF). ... DEBBIE HOCKLEY has been elected president of New Zealand Cricket, becoming "the first woman to hold that role in the 122-year history of the sport's national governing body." New Zealand Cricket said Wednesday that Hockley, who was captain of New Zealand's women's team and is a member of the Int'l Cricket Council's Hall of Fame, "will replace STEPHEN BOOCK and will serve a three-year term" (AP, 11/16). ... ZAI BENNETT will take the new role of director of programs, Sky Entertainment UK and Ireland in a reorganization of the broadcaster’s top team. GARY DAVEY, Sky’s managing director of content, said that Bennett "will take overall leadership of the UK Entertainment team" which includes Sky 1 & Sky Living Dir ADAM MACDONALD, Sky Arts & Non-Scripted Dir PHIL EDGAR-JONES, Head of Comedy JON MOUNTAGUE and Head of Kids Content LUCY MURPHY. Bennett "will retain responsibility for Sky Atlantic," and will be supported by JAMIE MORRIS, who takes on the new position of channel editor, Sky Atlantic, "while retaining his existing responsibilities overseeing the scheduling for Sky Arts and Sky Atlantic" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 11/17).
