League Notes: Rising Popularity Of Women's Golf Leading To Improved Earnings For Caddies

With the "soaring popularity of women's golf in Korea, caddies for the top golfers in the KLPGA have also seen their earnings rise." Jang Jong-hak, a caddie to this year's KLPGA money winner Park Sung-hyun, earned 100M won ($85,300) this season, equaling that of Seo Jung-woo, who was a caddie to then KLPGA golfer Kim Hyo-joo in the '14 season. Seo was the first caddie to earn more than 100M won in a season in the history of the KLPGA. This year's KLPGA purse "was the biggest ever." It featured a total of 33 events with total prize money of 21B won ($17.9M). Two players -- Park and Ko Jin-young -- pocketed more than 1B won ($848,000) and nine players earned more than 500M won ($424,000) (KOREA TIMES, 11/17).

The Indian Boxing Council and Sporty Solutionz on Wednesday signed a five-year commercial deal under which the latter will spend Rs 100 crore ($15M) to give a boost to professional boxing in India. The IBC said, "The investment is made in order to make India the global hub for professional boxing in the next five years. This step will give active boxers an opportunity to compete and earn." The first major event will be the IBC Fight Nights starting in January (IBC).
