Media Notes: WWE, Sky Deutschland Reach Multi-Year Deal To Show Events In DACH Region

WWE and Sky Deutschland have signed a new multi-year agreement to distribute WWE’s pay-per-view events starting this Monday with the Survivor Series. Sky customers will also be able to watch WWE programs Raw and SmackDownlive on Sky Sports beginning in April. Sky customers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will be able to order the Survivor Series event on Monday at 1am local time (WWE).

Lionel Messi "has led the Argentina squad in a media boycott following 'grave' press reports about the team and their recent form." The 29-year-old "announced the ban" after scoring in the side's 3-0 World Cup qualifier victory over Colombia. A radio report alleged that forward Ezequiel Lavezzi "smoked marijuana after a training session, which he denies." Messi: "We've received many accusations, a lot of lack of respect and we never said anything." Messi and the 25-man squad "walked out of the news conference following the Colombia game." It was also announced that Lavezzi "is taking the radio reporter to court over the accusations" (BBC, 11/16).

Fight Network has launched Fight Network Italia, which will be available for free to Sky Italia subscribers on Sky 804, reaching more than 6 million viewers. Fight Network Italia will broadcast fight-themed programming in primetime from 10pm-7am with national and int'l events, while daytime programming will include features and profiles, as well as lifestyle programming focusing on food, health and wellness. Fight Network Italia is launching in partnership with Italian production company Amanita Media (Fight Network).

TF1’s broadcast of the France vs. Ivory Coast friendly on Tuesday “drew an average audience” of 5.2 million viewers. The number translated to a market share of 21.6% for the channel, “topping viewership numbers” on French TV for the night. The match drew a peak audience of 6.2 million (L’ÉQUIPE, 11/16).
