The director of Scottish Championship club Dumbarton claimed that the new stadium move "is essential to sustain the financial future of the club," according to Carla Donald of the Scotland DAILY RECORD.
Ian Wilson, who is in charge of the project to move from Castle Road to Young’s Farm near Renton Road, "is set to answer" fans' questions next week at the Sonstrust AGM on Nov. 23.
The proposals "have sparked some concern from the fans, who are keen to make sure the ambitious relocation project is financially feasible" for the club. However, Wilson claimed that "in order for the part-time team to continue their success in second-tier football, they must generate income."
He said, “We are trying to make a more secure financial footing for the club and a level of income that allows us to play at the highest levels that an increased income can achieve and sustain." Ahead of the Sonstrust AGM, the public was "invited to view the plans and chat with the new stadium’s project team last week about the proposed move" -- which could see a 4,000-capacity football ground built with ambitions of creating community and leisure facilities. The proposals also now include areas for residential development, which "will cross fund the construction of the new stadium and associated community sport uses" (DAILY RECORD, 11/16).
