Football Notes: FIFA Disciplinary Committee To Discuss Poppy Protest

England and Scotland's defiance of FIFA's ruling on poppies during their World Cup qualifier is "expected to be discussed by the FIFA disciplinary committee early this week." Match Commissioner & FA of Wales President Dai Griffiths would not confirm whether "he had included both teams' wearing poppies on their armbands to honour the war dead in his report, delivered within two hours of the match finishing." But it is "inconceivable" that Griffiths did not include this disputed breach of FIFA's Law 4, "especially as his own country Wales wore black armbands without poppies" for its qualifier against Serbia (London DAILY MAIL, 11/13).

The Confederation of African Football has announced Wednesday an "increase in prize money for all of its interregional competitions." The winner of the African Cup of Nations to be hosted in Gabon will receive $4M in prize money, which is a 64% increase from a previous $1.5M. The runner-up will take home $2M. The CAF Champions League which previously gave away $1.5M, now awards $2.5M while the CAF Confederations Cup "saw an increase" of almost 90% with the winners taking a total of $1.25M against the previous $660,000 (AFRICA NEWS, 11/9).
