Cricket Australia Officials Under Pressure After Poor Start To Summer Season

Australian cricket captain Steve Smith is safe for now, but coach Darren Lehmann, High-Performance Manager Pat Howard, the selection panel and Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland are "all under enormous pressure following the worst start to a summer in more than three decades," according to Peter Lalor of THE AUSTRALIAN. There was no play in Hobart on Saturday, the elements "mourning the circumstances of the game and forcing play to be abandoned at 2pm." Fans, commentators and former players are "demanding accountability for the poor performances in recent matches." Sutherland is "adamant that Smith’s position as captain is not under threat." He said, "We have a very high regard for Steve Smith as a person, as a leader and obviously as a cricketer." Howard was "not so enthusiastic about the future of other key figures, including himself." He said, "That (Argus) report talks about ultimate accountability, so that's me. I’ve got to make the people that report to me (accountable). Darren (Lehmann) was asked is he under the pump and he said yes. Am I under the pump? Absolutely, as I should be. I’ve got no problem with that" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 11/14).
