Franchise Notes: Scottish Premiership Side Rangers Terminate Joey Barton's Contract

Scottish Premiership side Rangers announced that the club "agreed to terminate the contract of the midfielder Joey Barton with immediate effect." Barton "had been signed off work with stress since last Friday, as talks over the termination continued." He "has not played since being suspended following a confrontation" with Manager Mark Warburton in the wake of September’s "humiliating" 5-1 defeat to Celtic (London GUARDIAN, 11/10).

French F1 driver Esteban Ocon will race for Force India next season after agreeing to a multi-year deal, the Silverstone-based team said in a statement. Ocon replaces experienced German Nico Hülkenberg, who is moving to Renault, alongside Mexican Sergio Pérez. The Force India announcement "leaves only Mercedes-powered Manor with a clear vacancy" (REUTERS, 11/10).

Scottish Premiership side Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell said that he had a “fruitful discussion” with the management at Al Wasl football club in Dubai on Wednesday. Lawwell met with board member Waleed Al Shaibani, attended a training session and received an Al Wasl shirt from head coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena, "while being given a tour of the facilities." Lawwell reportedly "might be in Dubai to secure a tie-up with Al Wasl, similar to current agreements" Celtic has with clubs in Europe, Mexico and India. Celtic will be in Dubai for a mid-season training camp in January (GULF NEWS, 11/10).
