French National Cycling League Taking Int'l Cycling Union To Court

The French National Cycling League (LNC) announced that it will “take legal action” against the Int’l Cycling Union (UCI) over the reforms to the World Tour calendar, according to L’ÉQUIPE. In September, the LNC warned that it would study “all legal options,” including an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, to contest the World Tour calendar. In a statement the LNC said that it “mandated its board (law firm) that it initiates the procedure before the competent court against the UCI.” The proceedings, led by LNC President Marc Madiot, contest the World Tour calendar reforms which “increase the number of events from 27 to 37 in 2017.” The LNC said that it asked UCI President Brian Cookson about it twice “without receiving a response” (L’ÉQUIPE, 11/8).
