Football Notes: Legia Warsaw Will Not Sell Tickets For Borussia Dortmund CL Game

Legia Warsaw said that it "will not sell tickets for the Champions League fixture at Borussia Dortmund later this month." UEFA said that "there is a provisional suspension pending a final decision on Nov. 10" after Legia fans clashed with Spanish police prior to the 5-1 defeat at Real Madrid last month. Twelve people were arrested and seven injured, and in the aftermath the club said that it would "ask for a significantly reduced number of tickets" for the Dortmund game and would "check every buyer individually." But on Monday, it confirmed that it would not sell tickets for the Nov. 22 fixture to its own fans as a "preventative measure" (ESPN.com, 11/7).

The FA of Zambia announced it will "back self-confessed thief Kalusha Bwalya for the position of council member at the congress in March next year." Kalusha is on record soliciting and accepting a $80,000 bribe from "disgraced" former FIFA VP Mohammed Bin Hammam which he claims was a debt on behalf of FAZ. That money "has never been seen or recorded anywhere in the FAZ financial books." The 1998 African Footballer of the Year "will still have to pass an integrity test at FIFA before he could make the ballot" (ALL AFRICA, 11/5).

Football across Uruguay "has been suspended after a man who was shot by rival supporters two months ago lost his fight for life." Peñarol fan Hernan Fioritto, 21, was celebrating his team's 125th anniversary with two friends in September "when the trio were set upon by fans of Nacional who attempted to steal their club scarves." The BBC, citing Uruguayan newspaper reports, reported 15 men "are being held in prison and are accused of homicide" (London DAILY MIRROR, 11/6).
