Canadian Billionaire Pays $35M For His Son's F1 Seat At Williams, Report Claims

Lance Stroll's father, Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, paid an estimated $35M for his son's F1 seat at Williams, according to Michael Schmidt of AUTO, MOTOR UND SPORT. Lance Stroll, who won the European Formula 3 championship this season, was unveiled as Williams's second driver for the '17 season last week. Lawrence Stroll, who made his money through investments in fashion brands Pierre Cardin, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, has an estimated net value $2.4B, according to Forbes. Insiders say that Lance Stroll's racing career has cost his father somewhere between $70M and $80M. Lawrence Stroll is not only paying millions for his son's F1 seat, but also financed Williams' new simulator (AMS, 11/3).
