Top14 Rugby Side Lyon OU Signs Matmut As Naming Sponsor For Gerland Stadium

For its move across Lyon to the Gerland quarter in January, Top14 rugby side Lyon OU “will take the name of its stadium with it,” after signing a new naming sponsorship with French insurance company Matmut, according to Antoine Sillières of LYON CAPITALE. The 10-year agreement sees LOU receive €2M ($2.2M) per year. Matmut will also pay €500,000 ($551,855) per year as a jersey sponsor. In a joint statement, the two parties said that “the stadium will bear the name and colors of the insurance company.” The former home of Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais, the Stade de Gerland will now be named “Matmut Stadium de Gerland” (LYON CAPITALE, 11/6). 20 MINUTES’ Elisa Frisullo reported to “transform the Gerland stadium and its surroundings,” €60M ($66M) will be invested in the coming years by club shareholders, with €35M ($39M) in the first phase of work to “reduce the stadium’s capacity from 40,000 to 25,000” (20 MINUTES, 11/6).
