Officers Build Barrier Between West Ham, Stoke City Fans At London Stadium

The strongest police presence at the London Stadium so far this season "saw officers form a barrier between West Ham and Stoke fans for the full game to bring a halt to trouble at the ground," according to Kieran Gill of the London DAILY MAIL. There were "incidents involving home fans in the first half as they appeared to refuse to sit down and stewards and police intervened, but the heavy security largely worked during the 1-1 draw." On Saturday, for the first time this season, officers "were stationed inside the stadium and used to segregate supporters after West Ham and the Metropolitan Police reached an agreement." For the visit of Stoke, which sold out its 2,800 allocation, there were "officers at all surrounding stations, on the trains and following fans on the walkway to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park." Police vans and horses were used, with the sight of florescent yellow unescapable as "post-match segregation was also put in place." Several stewards "were issued hand-held cameras to catch any wrongdoing, while others had them attached to their armour" (DAILY MAIL, 11/5).
