Rory McIlroy Says No Timeline On Finding New Golf Equipment Provider After Nike's Exit

Golfer Rory McIlroy said that he does not “have a timeline” on when he will make a full equipment change after Nike Golf exited the business this summer. McIlroy tested a TaylorMade driver, 3-wood and 5-wood at last week’s WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Appearing on the “No Laying Up Podcast,” McIlroy said that Nike’s exit has given him the “freedom to try other things that are on the market that I haven’t been able to try.” McIlroy added that finding a new ball “will be the big thing because it’s the only piece of equipment you use for every single shot.” He added, “The thing now is, I know the Nike golf ball I’m playing with works with my irons, my wedges and the new woods I’ve put into the bag. ... I can still play the Nike balls for the foreseeable future, but there is going to come a day where I need to change just because they’re not making them anymore.” He said wedges and irons are “pretty much the last priority because I feel the manufacturers make irons and wedges that are so similar nowadays.” McIlroy: "If I can find a golf ball I’m comfortable with, that would be a good place to start 2017" (“No Laying Up Podcast,” 11/1).
